Forgiven

by Lew Silvers in How I Work

While I may return to my beloved bouquets again and again how I approach the subject matter constantly changes.  After working in chalk pastels for several months (you can see the latest pastels in New Gallery) I’ve returned to acrylics.  I like working in acrylics for their forgiving nature.  Don’t like something? Paint over it!  I also love how they can mimic the texture and feel of gouache.  My newest work, which will be posted in the next few weeks, features sunflowers and my other recurring them, women in hats.

While I may come back to my adored bunches over and over how I approach the topic continually changes. In the wake of working in chalk pastels for a while (you can see the most recent pastels in New Gallery) I've come back to acrylics. I like working in acrylics for their generous nature. Try not to like something? Paint over it! I additionally love the wonderful way they can imitate the surface and feel of gouache. My most up to date work, which will be posted in the following couple of weeks, highlights sunflowers and my other repeating them, ladies in caps.
